Our Haight Family Web Site
Thank you for visiting the Haight Family Web Site. The purpose of the Haight Genealogy Web site is for the research of our family line, to have a place to view family history, stories and share family photos.
As of April 12, 2009, our family database contains 1575 individuals, 563 families with 521 unique surnames. The most common surnames are Haight, Hoyt, Allen, Nay, Phelps, Sheldon, Baker, Parmelee.
Over the last several years I have restricted my research to my direct family line from Simon Hoyt. Today, I decided that I would see what was available on the internet for the Haight Family name using the Google search site. After visiting a few sites that pertained to our Haight Family name, I could not believe the incorrect information that was being presented by individuals about our family.
Some of the information I found pertained to the Haight Family Coat-of-Arms and out-dated information on Simon Hoyt. One site even had an update to their information in 2010.
If you are interested in the latest research on the Hoyt/Haight family, I would like to direct you to Doug Sinclair's site [Simon Hoyt]
Concerning the Haight Family [Coat-of-Arms]
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who were the parents of William Haight?
William Haight was born about 1785, in Dutchess County, New York. At an early age he moved to the Washington County, New York area. Shortly before 1809, he married Sylvia Langdon, who was a Quaker, from Easton, Albany County.
After their marriage, it appears that William and his wife, Sylvia, lived with her parents. By 1809, they had their first child, who was bon in Washington County. Before 1820, they had moved, along with Sylvia's parents, to Galen, Seneca County. Then about 1838, William and his family once again moved, this time to Farmington, Ontario County.
I have been searching for 14 years for any evidence as to whom the parents of William were. Some have suggested that he was the son of Benjamin and Aureyanche "Harriet" Allen, but have failed to provide any evidence to validate this linkage.
If anyone can help on this brick wall, I would forever be in your debt.
